STAKVAT EXCELS FOR WINE MATURATION

The Stakvat wine storage system of       Ausvat Pty Ltd, with its associated oak technologies, provides an ideal means for winemakers to control oxygenation and maturation of wine, at a time when over supply in the industry means that rapid oxygenation is likely to be avoided in favour of more prolonged and controlled development.

In Innovation in Oaking Wine

Stakvat® is an oaking system and a feasible barrel equivalent for
the production, storage and maturation of barrel aged wines.

Stakvat® has a wine volume capacity of 900 litres equal to 4
barriques or 3 hogsheads with the option of insist temperature
control through inbuilt cooling tubes.

Twenty years of research and development including 15 years of
field trials has seen the concept successfully evolve into an economical and versatile storage and maturation vessel for barrel aged wines.


Cost Comparisons

In the first year of purchase, the overall cost of the
Stakvat® concept is comparable to the cost of new barrels. When it comes time for oak replacement, new oak can be replaced for around a quarter of the cost of new barrels with the owner retaining the stainless steel vessel.

Used Stakvat® walls can be reclaimed and used as internal battens.

Barrel reclaimed oak can be chosen as an option as internal oak battens in Stakvat® reducing oaking costs even further.

Stakvat’s® unique design enables vats to be fork lifted from any of the four sides stacked in multiples up to five high allowing 60% more wine to be stored in the same space that would be occupied by barrels.

Handling costs are substantially reduced as 76 Barrique– Barrels          30 StakVAT's®     one Stakvat® is equivalent to 4 barrique
17,100 litres                         27,000 litres           or 3 hogheads in volume wine processed.

Controllable Oak Flavour Adjustments    
Stakvat
® has two replaceable and reclaimable quality oak walls. One of the walls is an out-swinging door as shown above and allows for easy access for cleaning and oak replacement

Internal oak battens are threaded on to a pair of reuseable stainless steel rings as shown below.

Oak flavour intensities can be easily adjusted to less than or equal to barrel regimes or to fast extraction by deliberately overoaking for blending wine with larger storage tanks. This can be done by adjusting the number of internal battens by simply threading single battens on or off the circular oak rack through the side door opening of the Stakvat®.


Other Features

Use of
chemicals for cleaning is greatly reduced as Stakvat® has an out-swinging door that allows easy oak replacement and cleaning using high pressure rainwater as all surfaces are easily visible through the door opening.
